How it works:
Studio sessions are private tufting workshops for individuals or couples wanting to learn the art of tufting outside of a regular group workshop. These sessions take place in Resort, a working artist studios in Margate. My room is shared with two other creatives who may or may not be working in the space so these sessions are suitable for a maximum of 2 people.
Day sessions are 6 hours plus lunch and breaks. If you wish to have a custom duration, for example a half day/evening or a course spread over several weeks then please get in touch to discuss.
There is a choice between weekends and weekdays and we aim to find a time when the studio will be the least busy. If you have a specific date in mind and would like to check availability or visit the studio before purchasing then please feel free to get in touch.
Overview:
One day sessions follow the same format as the regular group one day tufting workshops. Students will learn the basics of how to use both loop and cut pile tufting guns, as well as different types of yarn and the other materials used in tufting. By the end of the workshop you will have created you own tufted textile artwork in the form of a mini rug or wall hanging (max size 60x60cm).
Ellen will contact participants prior to the workshop to discuss their design ideas and to give them a colour chart from which they can select the yarns they wish to use. Students can either take their piece away with them if they finish it or arrange for collection or delivery depending on what is most convenient.
If you wish to have a tailored private workshop for instance to create something different to the standard 60 x 60cm rug or wall hanging, or if you would like a half day, evening, or multiple session course then please get in touch to arrange this directly.
Accessibility:
Tufting is a fairly physical craft! The guns weigh 1.4kg and require consistent pressure from both hands. For private workshops you will be mainly standing due to the height of the table. The studios have step free access. If you have more other accessibility questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.
About the venue:
Resort Studios are located inside the iconic retro theme park and music venue Dreamland in Margate, Kent. There is a huge pay and display car park on site. Margate Train station is a 5 minute walk away and there are frequent trains direct to London in as little as 90 minutes. The nearest bus stops are a 5 and 10 minute walk and serve the local area, Canterbury and coaches to London.
We have a large fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster for you to use or you are welcome to visit the vibrant old town and try out one of the many eateries within a 5 minute stroll along the beach.
